A new partnership between video game publisher Konami and developer Bloober Team has fueled rumors that a new Silent Hill game is in production.
The announcement, made by Bloober Team on its official blog, does not specify the Silent Hill franchise but fans familiar with the developer's horror-focused catalog have made the connection. Bloober Team does confirm that it will be working alongside Konami to jointly develop content, with a separate press release confirming the production of "games from existing and new IPs."
Piotr Babieno, president of Bloober Team, said, "It is a historic day for me and the culmination of several years of our work. The fact that such a renowned company as KONAMI has decided to strategically cooperate with the Bloober Team means that we also joined the world leaders in gaming and became an equal partner for the leading players in this market."
The announcement has fueled rumors of a new Silent Hill game. Speaking to GameIndustry.biz in February, Bloober Team CEO Peter Babieno confirmed that the studio was working "on another gaming project, another horror IP... with a very famous gaming publisher." Video Games Chronicle recently noted that according to its sources, Bloober Team is working on a Silent Hill project but did not elaborate.
Bloober Team has made a name for itself by almost exclusively developing horror games in recent years. The studio has seen success through titles such as Layers of Fear, Observer, Blair Witch and, most recently, The Medium. Fans of both Bloober Team and Silent Hill have noted the natural pairing of the entities.
The last Silent Hill product announced by long-time publisher Konami was a range of special edition skateboards featuring the iconic nurse monsters that appear throughout the series. While disappointing many fans, some speculate that the launch of new Silent Hill merchandise may precede the reveal of a new game.
Bloober Team's latest game, The Medium, is available now for Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC. The game launches for PlayStation 5 on Sept. 3.
