Clarice, the upcoming CBS show which will serve as a direct sequel to the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs, has confirmed its casting for Clarice Starling, the role that was once played by Jodie Foster.

Rebecca Breeds will be playing the titular character, according to THR. Breeds is best known for her work on The Originals, a spinoff to The Vampire Diaries, in which she played the dangerous vampire Aurora de Martel. Breeds also had a recurring role in Pretty Little Liars.

The Silence of the Lambs was a psychological thriller starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, based on a novel by Thomas Harris. Its enduring appeal has led to multiple screen adaptations of Harris's writing, which met with varying levels of success. Clarice is meant to take up where the original movie left off, following Clarice Starling one year after the events of the film.

Breeds will be taking on the role of a much-loved character, who is described as complex, vulnerable, and brilliant. In the new show, Clarice will be returning to her work at the FBI, where she is bound to be tackling new and dramatic cases.

Clarice will air on CBS. The show does not yet have a release date.
