When Marvel Studios announced that it was proceeding with plans to do a Black Panther sequel despite the tragic passing of T'Challa actor, Chadwick Boseman, the Black Panther of the first film, the company also announced that it would not be recasting the role of T'Challa for the sequel. From that point, fans have speculated about who (if anyone) will be the new Black Panther in the sequel and the current betting odds are leaning towards T'Challa's sister, Shuri, played by Letitia Wright.

The betting site, MyBookie, is currently taking bets on which character will become the Black Panther and Shuri is the heavy favorite using the moneyline, at -175, followed by Nakia at +175, Okoye at +350, the Field (as in, anyone not listed on the website) at +400, Erik Killmonger at +500, M’Baku (Great Gorilla) at +600, W’Kabi at +700 and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) at +1000.

In betting terms, the moneyline is based on how much money you would receive if you made your bet. The lowest negative number is the biggest favorite (so -175 would be a bigger favorite than -150). In these instances, if you bet $100 on Nakia and she became the Black Panther, you would make $275, your initial $100 plus a profit of $175. Meanwhile, for the negative numbers, it tells you how much you would have to bet to make a profit of $100. In other words, if you bet $175 on Shuri and she became the Black Panther, you would also make $275, your initial $175 plus a profit of $100.

Shuri Black Panther Lashley

Clearly, the fact that Shuri had taken over for her brother as the Black Panther in the comic books in the past is leading towards the bookies making her the big favorite to take over for her brother in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well.

Gambling odds when it comes to plot decisions in entertainment can often be quite illuminating. A number of fans were surprised when the betting odds were released for who would sit on the Iron Throne at the end of Game of Thrones and the heavy favorite was Bran, but that turned out to be the ultimate answer in the show's series finale. That doesn't mean that these betting odds are correct for Shuri, but it is likely to be something to keep in mind if you choose to partake in some gambling over the fate of the Black Panther mantle.
