An eagle-eyed player in the popular online shooter Hunt: Showdown has identified Shrek's swampy house in the game's latest map.

The discovery was first posted to the game's Reddit by user zzilla8. The shared screenshot clearly depicts a building designed as a homage to Shrek's house, built under the base of a gigantic pale tree, and sporting a small rock path sloping up to the left. The addition of a rickety wooden fence further indicates to players to get out of Shrek's swamp.

Based on zzilla8's descriptions, this reference appears to be more fleshed out than first glances would suggest. Not pictured is Shrek's outhouse, which can be found at the top of the stairs on the left. Players who wish to seek out the house themselves will be able to find it in the bottom left corner of the new DeSalle map.

The inclusion of Shrek's house in Hunt: Showdown is a fun Easter egg for both fans of the film franchise and the game. Hunt: Showdown places players in the boots of a grizzled hunter, tasked with eliminating a variety of supernatural forces and monsters. The suggestion that Shrek, a monstrous ogre, is prowling around the location comfortably fits into the canon of the game's world.

Developed and published by Crytek, the studio behind the iconic Crysis series, Hunt: Showdown launched into early access in 2018 for PC (via Steam) and Xbox. The game went on to release in full in 2019, with a PlayStation 4 release following in 2020. The game's challenging yet addictive gameplay loop has earned it generally favorable reviews from players and critics alike.

If the idea of Shrek stalking the marshes of DeSalle is spooky, then you might want to avoid this mod for the remake of Resident Evil 3. The game is scary enough as it is without Mike Myers-voiced ogre chasing Jill Valentine down dark hallways.
