The eagerly anticipated television adaptation of Microsoft's iconic Halo franchise has finally set a filming location and expected start for principal photography.

The upcoming Showtime series is on track for an expected 2020 premiere with an expected start date for June 2019 filming on location in Budapest.

Reported by entertainment news site Production Weekly, the live-action adaptation of the popular sci-fi first-person shooter was officially greenlit by the network this past June.

The first season has received a ten-episode order and is expected to feature series' main protagonist Master Chief as one of its main characters.

The planned adaptation is developed for television by Kyle Killen (Awake) who will write and serve as the series' showrunner while Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) will serve as executive producer and direct several episodes of the first season.

Taking place in the future as humanity fights for survival against the united extraterrestrial army known as The Covenant, Halo follows an elite soldier who encounters mysterious, ancient structures that each hold their own deadly, destructive secrets threatening all sentient life in the universe.
