The upcoming live-action Halo TV show has shifted from airing on Showtime to premiering on the streaming service Paramount+.

"We were on the hunt for signature shows beyond the Star Trek franchise on CBS All Access and were thinking, what could be a defining series for Paramount+," David Nevins, Chief Creative Officer, CBS & Chairman and CEO, Showtime Network, said to Deadline. "Halo always fit the bill, but seeing it, we felt it would work." The series is now aiming to premiere on Paramount+ in the first quarter of 2022.

"It delivers the visceral excitement of playing the game, along with a much deeper emotional experience around the Spartans, human beings who got their humanity chemically and genetically altered," Nevins further explained about the Halo series. "The story is about reclaiming what makes them human, and therefore it’s a very powerful story."

It's been a long road for the live-action Halo TV series. Once set to be the centerpiece of Xbox's forays into live-action programming, it had to find a new home after Xbox abandoned those plans. It later shifted over to Showtime, where it spent years in development before receiving a green light.

Halo stars Pablo Schreiber, Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Natasha Culzac and Shabana Azmi. The series premieres on Paramount+ in the first quarter of 2022.
