The winner of Shonen Jump+'s recent manga competition will receive a Netflix anime adaptation.

Weekly Shonen Jump's currently airing "battle audition" web series MILLION TAG is a reality show that follows six teams, comprised of aspiring manga creators and veteran Shonen Jump editors, who compete to develop a new manga series. Shueisha, the company which owns Weekly Shonen Jump, previously announced that the winning team would get their manga published digitally on Shonen Jump+, with the possibility of a print publication afterwards, and would also be awarded a prize of 5 million yen (roughly $45,000 USD). According to Anime News Network, Netflix has also announced that it will produce and exclusively stream the anime adaptation of whichever manga wins the competition.

In addition to producing the anime adaptation of the winning selection, Netflix also confirmed that one of its anime producers, Kohei Obara, will serve as a guest judge for the final episode's last challenge. Obara previously produced Dragon Ball Z Kai and the Netflix-Rooster Teeth collaboration Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy: Siege. Obara will join the panel of previously announced judges, which includes Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto and Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku creator Yuji Kaku.

The first episode of the eight-part MILLION TAG series premiered on Weekly Shonen Jump's official Youtube channel on July 2. The competition features four challenges judged by a panel of experts, with Japanese comedy troupe YONSENTOSHIN and voice actor Ayane Sakura (Persona 5 Strikers) co-hosting the series.

Weekly Shonen Jump remains Japan's most recognized and successful manga publishing magazine, having published international phenomena like Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Bleach, Hunter x Hunter, Rurouni Kenshin, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer and Death Note. Since its launch in 2014, Shonen Jump+, the magazine's free digital manga publishing app, has already accumulated a significant catalog of exclusive and successful manga titles, including the soon-to-be-adapted espionage story Spy x Family and the recently delayed monster-battling manga Kaiju No. 8.
