The fourth season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a little different from previous seasons in that it has been more overtly split into three major story arcs. The first focused on Ghost Rider, while the second has focused almost exclusively on the Life Model Decoys.
Now, showrunner Jed Whedon and star Chloe Bennet have revealed a few details about the season’s third and final arc, including one which promises to reward fans who have been following the show since the beginning.
While both were careful not disclose the title of the upcoming arc, in an interview with IGN, Bennet described it as being “a theme that I think has been kind of hopping around in pop culture at the moment. But it’s kind of like a fun Marvel take on that. For all those people who wished to see these characters in a different light, this is going to be the time for that to happen.”
“The last seven episodes are by far going to be some of my favorite of the whole series because it’s really going to reward fans who have been with us from the beginning, and it’s really fun.”
Whedon teased a more overt link to the first season, referencing the rare metal Gravitonium, last seen in the possession of Hydra Agents in the episode “Beginning of the End.” “We would not be doing our jobs as well as we could if we left that unanswered,” he said. It seems you can’t even leave an element with gravity-defying properties up in the air forever.
Airing Tuesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on ABC, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Chloe Bennet as Daisy “Quake” Johnson, Ming-Na Wen as Melinda May, Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Jemma Simmons, Henry Simmons as Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie and more.
