"Sherlock" season four has certainly kicked off the New Year with a bang. According to BBC News, 8.1 million viewers tuned in to watch "The Six Thatchers" when it premiered in the UK on New Year's Day.

Although this total is slightly lower than the 8.4 million viewers that watched the one-off 2016 "Sherlock" special, it is still more than 7.7 million people who watched Queen Elizabeth II deliver her traditional Christmas Day message on the same channel a week earlier.

Fortunately for the show's anxious fans, the next episode -- entitled "The Lying Detective" -- is due to air on January 8 and its trailer has just been released.

Judging from what we can see, Toby Jones' character is set to make his debut in the episode, and it seems Sherlock is not a fan. He describes him as "the most dangerous, most despicable human being that I've ever encountered."

“Sherlock” Season Four episode two premieres on 8 January on BBC One in the United Kingdom and PBS in the United States.
