Sherlock Director Paul McGuigan in Talks For Fox’s Frankenstein

Paul McGuigan, who directed the second series of BBC’s hit Sherlock, is in final negotiations with Fox to helm its re-imagining of Frankenstein, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The untitled adaptation, penned by Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis, is said to be a “sci-fi take” on Mary Shelley’s celebrated 1818 novel, and focuses on themes of friendship and redemption. Real Steel director Shawn Levy circled the film a year ago, but no deal came together. Word is that Fox wants to get this movie moving quickly to compete with other Frankenstein projects in the works like Lakeshore’s I, Frankenstein and Summit’s The Dark Endeavor.

McGuigan also directed the films Push, Lucky Number Slevin and Wicker Park.
