Shelf space is the final frontier in this week's Shelf Porn

Living in Northern California I can relate to the "I need more space" dilemma. When comic and video game creator Harold Sipe moved from Brooklyn to North Carolina, he found himself with a lot more room to display his collection. In today's edition of Shelf Porn, Harold shares his collection of comics, action figures and more, with a heavy dose of Star Trek, Star Wars and spinner racks.

I am a writer and game producer who has written for Image, IDW Publishing as well as a few other odds and ins. (Screamland, Garters & Ghouls). Currently I am running a horror flash fiction blog with short stories from myself and a handful of other writers: Beyond Stories

On the game front I have worked on titles produced in partnership with Paramount Pictures, Lifetime TV, National Geographic and others. The most recent is Star Trek: Rivals now available in the app store for iOS.

About two years ago my fiance and I moved to Chapel Hill, NC from Brooklyn so I could join a video game start-up. One of the advantages to our new home was much more space and large built in bookcases.

Being a vintage comics and toy collector all my life this really gave me the ability to show off my collection in a way I was never able to before.

I set up an office off the living area for myself where I have my comics spinner rack, my Jack Kirby print from Jeremy Kirby's Personal Look into the life of Jack Kirby Kickstarter and a Kevin Mellon page from Namco and IDW's Garters & Ghouls which I wrote. (Still available from Comixology)

I also have a small bookcase where I am able to display my set of Batman '66 HeroClix and cards from Topps 1989 Batman set.

I also had room to display my wooden newsstand. I use it for larger books like Little Nemo in Slumberland from Sunday Press and a lot of my Golden Age collection. I'm a fan of anything that lets me get comics out of boxes and show them off.

My life-long passion for collecting is Star Trek. I devoted two shelves to the final frontier but admit it has spilled over everywhere. OH! That phaser from the Remco utility belt is signed by Mr. Walter Koenig, Pavel Chekov himself!

Though I am a Trekker, still really loved Star Ward growing-up and have a lot of the figures I did when I was a kid. The only complete Ben Cooper costume I have is a Darth Vader still in the box.

I have been lucky enough to hold on to a lot of stuff: Dozens and dozens of GI Joes, a Batman '66 Batarang replica, Doctor Who paperbacks and a very recent find I am very, very proud I was in a thrift shop recently when I came across a 1977 Shogun Warrior Godzilla figure, totally complete, that I picked up for the princely sum of one dollar.

Meg (my fiance) and I are both big gamers. We have several old Atari 2600 consoles and really enjoy hosting game nights (board games) with friends.

The majority of my figures are either classic DC Heroes or my favorites back to the Black & White days, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
