Hello and welcome to Shelf Porn, your weekly trip into one fan's shelves. Today Joe from Schaumburg, Illinois shows us his collection of robots, from Mobile Suit Gundam to Zoids to good old Robocop, among many others.

If you'd like to share your collection, you can find details on submitting it at the end of this post.

And now here's Joe ...

*****

Hey, my name's Joe Woolford and this is my Nerd Cave. Ever since I was a kid I've always loved robots, so that's what my collection mainly consists of, but despite that, there's a little something for just about anyone here. My studio apartment is kinda small, but thanks to some awesome cases from Ikea, I've been able to display everything nicely.

My favorite robot series are Mobile Suit Gundam (Primarily Gundam Unicorn), Zoids, Transformers, Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, and Pacific Rim. My collection was pretty decent as a kid, but after moving out to go to college, I gave away most of my figures or boxed them up, with no real intention of displaying them. But after I transferred down to Schaumburg, IL for college I met my current girlfriend and saw her massive comic/venom figure collection I decided I wanted to have a collection of my own. So over the past 2 years, using Amazon, Ebay, local hobby shops, Mandarake's online store as well as their actual stores during a trip to Japan, I managed to amass the collection I have here, with a few of my original figures I still had with me. Whether it be an action figure or a model version of one of these robots, they all bring back fond memories of intense battle sequences, ridiculous yelling attacks ("Burning Finger" and "Strike Laser Claw"), and the sheer joy of my imagination running wild.

Putting this collection together has been one of my greatest passions, and I hope that it will bring up fond memories for you as well. Before I give the tour I'll go over a few toy lines so you know what I'm referring to if you aren't already familiar with them:

HG = High Grade 1/144 scale model

RG = Real Grade 1/144 scale model (has a "skeleton" frame)

MG = Master Grade 1/100 scale model

PG = Perfect Grade 1/60 scale model

HMM = Highend Master Model 1/72 scale

R.S. (Robot Spirits), S.R.C. (Super Robot Chogokin), Revoltech, D-Arts, Figma, NECA, S. H. Monsterarts, and Black Series are all action figures.

Also, I'll list everything from Left to Right. I apologize for how wordy some of the names might get, but if you end up being interested in finding something here for yourself, you'll know exactly what to search for. Enjoy!

This set is a pretty random assortment, but what they all have in common is that they don't really have a place among any of my display case sets. Ultimate Optimus' flight tech is too big, the weapons of my 3 MG Gundam models get in the way when put in with other sets, and my vinyl transformers just look out of place among the other figures. But I proudly display them all in their misfit glory!

Back: Mechtech Ultimate Optimus Prime1

Middle: MG Shin Musha Gundam Model, MG Heavyarms EW Version, and MG Musha Gundam MK-II

Front: Loyal Subjects Optimus and Megatron, Transformers Dreadwind/Darkwing Kabaya models combined, Funko POP! Age of Extinction Optimus, and Loyal Subjects Grimlocks

This group is my Helic Republic Zoid set. The massive Gojulas is my most recent modeling accomplishment, and it went above and beyond my expectations. It's VERY articulated and stable in a lot of its poses, and I think the cannons speak for themselves.

Middle: HMM Gojulas w/Tomy CP-10 Cannon Unit

Back: Revoltech Blue Blade Liger and HMM Command Wolf

Front: HMM Command Wolf Irvine Custom, HMM Irvine Mini Figure, and Revoltech Red Blade Liger

This set also happens to fall under Helic Republic Zoids, but mainly they are all used by the Blitz Team in the New Century Zero show. The Liger Zero Panzer was my first HMM Zoid model, and it was so fun to build and see all of the missile pods opened up.

Top: HMM Liger Zero Jager and Liger Zero Schneider

Bottom: HMM Shadow Fox, HMM Liger Zero Panzer, HMM Judgeman mini figure, and HMM Command Wolf LC&AC Brad Custom

These are my Guylos/Zenebas Empire Zoids in all of their terrifying awesomeness. The Great Saber looks amazing with its color scheme, and large amount of cannons, but dear god did that model give me hell! If you decide to pick it up, be very, VERY patient and careful, and be ready with some superglue because quite a few pegs snapped off with very little effort.

Back: Revoltech Geno Breaker, HMM Berserk Fury and HMM Geno Saurer Raven Custom

Front: HMM Lightning Saix Irvine Custom, HMM Command Wolf LC Zenebas Empire Type, and HMM Great Saber

My shrine to the Supreme Commander of the Autobots and my favorite Transformer of all time, Optimue Prime. I do have the trailers for both G1 Primes, I just keep them elsewhere because of obvious space issues.

Back: Beast Wars II Lio Convoy, 20th Anniversary Optimus, Nightwatch Optimus

Middle: 25th Anniversary Re-Release G1 Optimus, Generations Orion Pax, G1 Optimus

Front: War For Cybertron Optimus, Legends of Cybertron Optimus, 30th anniversary mini optimus figures, Transformers Star Convoy Kabaya model, and Ultimate Battle Optimus

Robocops' thigh holster is pretty great, and ED-209's machine gun sound effects are just as hilariously long as the scene from the movie.

NECA ED-209 and Robocop

I never had an original Megazord growing up, and after seeing them online for a couple hundred dollars at times, I was more than happy to fork out $26 for the Legacy version. I had a few Battletech robots as a kid, but I lost most of their parts, and it took me forever to figure out the name of the series. But shortly after I found it out, Thor and (sans)Axman showed up at my local Quake Collectible for dirt cheap. Despite Axman missing the weapon that defines him, he was the main toy I asked Santa for, but never received (mainly because "The Black Robot!" is horribly vague), so I hugged it tightly and shed a single tear.

Tyco Battletech (sans)Axman, Power Rangers Legacy Megazord, and Tyco Battletech Thor

One of my favorite movies ever is Starship Troopers, and the animated sequel Starship Troopers Invasion is the only sequel I acknowledge, so a figure of the main character was a must have. I picked up Gray Edwards at a comic shop because I always loved his armor design from Final Fantasy Spirits Within. Killzone, Resistance, and Dark Souls are 3 of my favorite series on Playstation, and I fully admit that I am one of those cloak using sniper jerks in Killzone 3. As for the Batmobile....Batman parks wherever he wants.

Play Arts Kai Starship Trooper "Hero", ERTL Die-Cast Batmobile, Final Fantasy Spirits Within Gray Edwards, DC Unlimited Killzone Helghast Sniper, Resistance 2 Chimera Hybrid, and Dark Souls 2 Collector's Edition Statue

This display contains the majority of Gundam/Mobile Suit action figures I still had from my childhood. The only figures that were new additions were the 12 inch Wing Gundam I found at Volo Antique Mall, and the Fix Figuration Nu Gundam I found at Wizard World. The 3 models here also don't really fit in with any of the other sets, and their parts tend to fall off rather easily. The Delta Kai and Justice Gundam were actually the gateway models to my love for model building. This set also has the only Gundam Seed figures I will ever own, because I got them before watching the show, then I decided to check it out, and my soul still hasn't fully recovered from that mistake...

Back: HG Gundam Delta Kai, 12 inch Transforming Wing Gundam, and RG Justice Gundam

Middle: Deluxe RGZ figure, 1/100 Serpent Custom, and Fix Figuration Nu-Gundam figure

Front: Zaku figure, GP-01 Core Fighter, (G) Gundam Desert Type figure, Duel Gundam figure, Kampfer figure, and GP-01FB Core Fighter

My 0083 Stardust Memory collection. The small GP-01 Fb figure was my first Gundam toy growing up and it has endured a lot. I lost his beam saber pegs on his backpack at some point, but was lucky enough to find replacement pieces in a secondhand shop many years later. Speaking of luck, I won the massive PG GP-01/Fb model during Bandai's 2014 Mid year campaign. and it came with all the parts to switch it between its 2 forms.

Back: PG Gundam GP-01/Fb

Front: HG Gundam GP-02, Gundam Converge GP-02, GM Cannon II Figure, Gundam GP-01 Fb, GM Custom Figure, RG GP-01 Fb, and Gundam Converge GP-01 Fb

This display is commemorating my favorite Gundam unit/Series: Gundam Unicorn. The name is ridiculous, but if you haven't checked it out, I can't recommend it enough! The Fix Figuration Metal Composite figure is fully transformable between Unicorn and Destroy modes, and it very poseable and articulated. The Kshatriya even comes with plastic inserts that allow its funnel pods to be posed as if they are launching from under its wings.

My girl friend loves the Zeon mobile suit designs, especially the Gouf Custom, so I put this set together for her. The Rozen Zulu was the first Mobile Suit Model she's ever built, and we got a kick out of seeing its high heeled feet.

Back: R.S. Sazabi, HG Rozen Zulu, and R.S. Sinanju

Middle: R.S. Zaku I Sniper Type, HG Dreissen Unicorn Version, and R.S. Gera Zulu

Front: HG Super Custom Zaku F2000, R.S. Gouf Custom, Gera Doga mini figure, Goug mini figure, Magella Tank mini figure, and R.S. Gera Zulu Angelo Sauper Custom

While I also enjoy the Zeon designs, I'm more of a Federation guy, especially their mass-production mobile suits. The Jestas, the ReZELs, and the Ez-8 were my favorites to build in this set.

Back: HG ReZEL Type-C Defenser b-Unit, R.S. Nu-Gundam w/Fin Funnel set, and HG ReZEL

The art pieces are beautifully detailed, and I knew they had to be mine when i laid eyes on them. The Autobrand came with the Covenant of Primus book inside, and even makes transforming sounds when you open it. As for the Megatron Tin Sign, all I can say is, "Crotch Trigger."

This set consists of various Transformer figures. I've got a few variations of my favorite Decepticon, Starscream, various Fall of Cybertron figures, and Generations figures based on their IDW comic versions. I was incredibly surprised to find the Dinobot Beast Wars figure in perfect condition aside from the flip up battle helmet, which I never liked anyway.

Back: Fall of Cybertron Kickback, Transformers Movie Starscream, Fall of Cybertron Grimlock, and Fall of Cybertron Sideswipe

This awesome display contains the SDCC Knights of Unicron figures in all of their 80's hair metal majesty, along with their original War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron figures. War for Cybertron Bumblebee is in here because he was the original lead singer of the band before he damaged his vocal circuits (there's a little booklet with the bands' history included). And Bruticus is there because the band needs security.

This display contains my R.S. Gundams that come from a series outside of the Universal Century timeline. I was so happy to finally see Gundams from G Gundam finally join the R.S toy-line because the great articulation allows them to easily do any action poses from the show. Shining Gundam is coming out soon, and I also hope for more Endless Waltz versions of the Gundams from Gundam Wing.

Front: R.S. Gundam Deathscythe Hell, R.S. Wing Gundam Zero, R.S. Gundam Epyon, and R.S. Altron Gundam

This display contains my Gurren Lagann set, my Gundam Wing mobile suits, and my Patlabor figures. The Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann figure's drill just didn't feel right on it, so I put it on the Arc-Gurren which, despite never using a drill attack in the show, looks great with it. I also picked up a 2nd Lazengann figure for cheap, so I could display one with more drills to closer resemble its attacks in the show. And speaking of drills, the S.R.C. Gurren Lagann is a fantastic figure on its own, but the Giga Drill add-on set makes it even better.

Back: S.R.C. Anti-Gurren Lagann, Revoltech Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Revoltech Arc-Gurren, and S.R.C. Gurren Lagann w/ "Drill Set of Manliness"

This display contains my Evangelion and Megaman sets. Samus because her arm cannon lets her fit in nicely with the Megaman set, the Megazord has a bladed weapon like the Evangelion figures, and Omnimon is so awesome he has both!

Back: Revoltech EVA Unit-04, Revoltech Mass Production EVA (Perfect Edition), and Revoltech EVA Mark.06

Clear photo of R.S. EVA Unit 03. I placed it here so it could show off its distorted arms without being cramped among the other figures.

This set is mainly my Jaeger and Kaiju figures, as well as a couple Funko Sci-Fi vinyl minis next to my "Zen-omorph" figure. I grew up watching Godzilla all the time, so when Bandai released the S.H.MonsterArts versions of him I was pretty excited since they are way more articulated than the figures from the 90's. Also, Pacific Rim gave me exactly what I needed to see in a movie, so NECA's toy-line has made an awesome addition to my collection.

Back: NECA 18 inch Cherno Alpha, NECA Scunner, NECA Battle-Damaged Knifehead, NECA 18 inch Gipsy Danger, NECA Hong Kong Brawl Gipsy Danger, and NECA Cherno Alpha

This set occupies the top of my hutch. Metroplex was a Christmas present from my girlfriend, and I responded by instantly planning our wedding. We love The Walking Dead comics, and have had a blast finding the figures based on the comic versions of the characters. The Masterpiece Transformable Robotech figures showed up at a nearby Half Price Books, so I snagged them over time during special sales. The rest of my NECA Jaegers are here too because they made the area too cramped when placed around the others.

So this Kotobukiya Gurren Lagann model was my first model that wasn't a Bandai Gundam or Mobile Suit, and I expected it to be different, but holy crap...this model was not enjoyable, the quality/detail sucks, and doesn't embody the over-the-top feel of Gurren Lagann at all. I almost got rid of the model, but decided it would be funnier to put it under the foot of my 2nd Lazengann and forever humped by the Humping Robot from Robot Chicken.
