It seems Hayley Atwell isn't the only Agent Carter alum with a part to play in the future of the Mission: Impossible film series. Actor Shea Whigham has apparently been tapped to appear in the franchise's upcoming sequels as well.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Whigham has joined the cast of both Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8. Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie -- who helmed 2015's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and 2018's Mission: Impossible - Fallout -- shared a photo of Whigham to social media with the caption, "You won't see him coming... #MI78." Details regarding Whigham's character are not available at this time.

Whigham is perhaps best known for playing Elias "Eli" Thompson on HBO's Boardwalk Empire. He boarded the cast of Marvel's Agent Carter in 2015, playing the character of Roger Dooley throughout the ABC series' first season. His other television credits include True Detective, Fargo, Narcos and Waco. Whigham has also appeared in such films as Joker, Bad Times at the El Royale, Lords of Dogtown, Fast & Furious and Fast & Furious 6.

Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 will be written and directed by McQuarrie, with Tom Cruise set to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt. While production is expected to begin later this year, after Cruise wraps work on Top Gun: Maverick, it's currently unknown which other cast members will return for the forthcoming films, although it's been said that both Henry Cavill and Alec Baldwin could return in some capacity.
