WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for the fourth season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, now streaming on Netflix.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power has always had a compelling cast on both ends of the conflict between the Princess Rebellion and the forces of the Horde. In between all that, one of the nicest characters on the show is Scorpia.

After spending multiple seasons under the thumb of Catra, Scorpia has finally gone on a dark but promising journey to become a traitor to the Horde and a hero in Season 4.

BFFs

Scorpia has spent most of the series up to this point as the loyal best friend/henchwoman of Catra. While Catra treats her poorly and orders her around, Scorpia takes everything in her stride. She would have been the Princess of the lands that the Fright Zone are built on, so she feels a sense of connection with the setting. Her feelings for Catra increase as the series goes on, and she even occasionally seems to get through to her.

Things were going even better after Entrapta ended up in the Fright Zone. The three of them formed their own version of the "Best Friend Squad," working together to bring the Horde's plans to fruition. But, jealous over the attention Entrapta is getting from Hordak, Catra develops a dislike for the group. When Entrapta tries to stop Hordak from accidentally tearing a whole in reality at the end of the third season, Catra knocked her out and exiled her to Beast Island. She later claimed that Entrapta was a spy sent by the Rebellion, seemingly sealing her spot at the top of the Horde's food chain. Scorpia did nothing the whole time but was visibly shaken

A CHANGE OF HEART

Catra's actions weigh on her throughout the fourth season, as does Scorpia's inaction. She watched Entrapta be taken away and did nothing to stop it. All that she has left of her is Emily, the robotic pet that Entrapta had designed. Slowly, Scorpia tries to get through to Catra, but she just continues to push her away. Finally, it proves to be too much for Scorpia. Nominally the most loyal of anyone on the show, she tells Catra to her face that she's a bad friend before departing. But she doesn't just leave the base.

Instead, Entrapta (with Emily in tow) depart for Bright Moon so they can speak with the princesses about potentially finding Entrapta on Beast Island. Although she's initially believed to be a spy sent by the Horde, Scorpia is able to convince some of the princesses that she's genuinely on the level. She's held prisoner, but Perfuma and Frosta quickly befriend her. This even causes Scorpia to tear up, as she didn't know the princesses would be this kind to her. Scorpia ends up unofficially joining the Princess Rebellion. She even accompanies Glimmer back to the Fright Zone so that Scorpia can be bonded with her Rune Stone. This works, unlocking electrical powers in Scorpia that she promptly uses to help bring down a bunch of Horde robots. The season ends with Scorpia returning to the battlefield and rushing to Perfuma and Frosta as Etheria is dragged back into the greater cosmos.

A NEW DAY

she-ra scorpia

This is a huge development for Scorpia, who has finally stepped out of Catra's shadow to become her own woman. She utilizes her powers to great effect for the heroes in the long-run, and it appears that she's fully gone over to the side of good. She couldn't have picked a better time, either, as the Horde almost all but collapses in the chaos caused by Hordak, learning the truth about Catra and Entrapta, leading to the destruction of their base. With the arrival of Hordak Prime, it'll come down to all the people of Etheria coming together to try and save the day to stop him from turning the world into a weapon.

It's also just fun to see Scorpia finally come into her own as a person, outside of whatever she thinks she needs to do to help out people like Catra. She stands up for herself and, more importantly, recognizes when people are actually being kind to her. This gives her the chance to actually grow as a person, which is exactly what the sweet-hearted brawler needed to learn.
