On June 9, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power showrunner Noelle Stevenson and her wife, cartoonist Molly Ostertag, did a charity stream on Twitch to raise funds for Black Lives Matter. After more than $40,000 in donations were raised, Stevenson revealed a secret: following the release of She-Ra's fifth and final season, she wrote and published a deleted scene from the series on the fanfiction website Archive of Our Own (AO3).Noelle did not share the link to the story itself, but provided hints so that fans could find it. This was the only story she'd ever uploaded to AO3. It was a single chapter that took place in space. It wasn't a smutty fanfic, but an emotional one. On Twitter, Noelle seemingly confirmed it was a story listed under the "Hurt/Comfort" tag. Sure enough, these hints were enough for fandom detectives to limit the possibilities down to a couple of stories. With Molly confirming one of the early popular suspects wasn't Noelle's fanfic, the fandom has more or less agreed that Noelle's fanfic is the story Don't Go, published under the username Annacharlier.Noelle hasn't confirmed it herself, so we can't be entirely certain that this is her fanfic. However, in the absence of any denials and the way the story both fits all of the hints and is of exceptional quality for a first-time "fanfiction," it seems like a fairly safe bet to assume Annacharlier is in fact Noelle Stevenson and this is the deleted scene. Perhaps the most striking bit of evidence in favor of this theory is that Noelle posted a drawing that perfectly matches one section of the story just days after the story's publication.
The story takes place following the fifth episode of Season 5, "Save the Cat," and focuses on Catra's recovering after Adora saved her from Hordak's control. It's a very psychological piece of writing that enhances Catra's redemption arc, dealing with her doubts over whether she even deserves redemption, and how Adora is still there for her even after all that they've been through. It's also got some very tender romantic moments; shippers already over the moon about Catradora's canon status should love getting more Catradora content (possibly) from the mind of the showrunner.
Even if Annacharlier somehow isn't Noelle Stevenson despite all the heavy hints and circumstantial evidence, whoever they are should be proud of this excellently written piece of fanfiction. She-Ra fans who haven't read it yet will definitely want to give it a read.
