Netflix and Dreamworks Animation are teaming up for a reboot of the popular 1980s animated series She-Ra, from showrunner and comics vet Noelle Stevenson (the co-creator of Lumberjanes and creator of Nimona). The new series will present "a modern take on the ‘80s girl power icon for a new generation of young fans."

Noelle Stevenson is the creator of the webcomic Nimona, which was adapted to a graphic novel by HarperCollins. An animated movie from 20th Century Fox planned for a 2020 release. Along with Grace Ellis, Stevenson was also the original writer of BOOM! Studios' Lumberjanes, the winner of Best New Series and Best Publication for Teens in the 2015 Eisner Awards.

CBR alum Josie Campbell serves as story editor on the new She-Ra.

A female-fronted counterpart to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra first appeared in the 1985 animated feature He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword, a compilation of the first five episodes of She-Ra: Princess of Power. Real name Princess Adora, she's the twin sister of Prince Adam (He-Man), and transforms into She-Ra by using the Sword of Protection, much like Prince Adam's transformation into He-Man.
