She-Ra is about to make her live-action debut for the very first time since the character was created.

Variety has reported that Amazon is in the early stages of developing. While DreamWorks Animation is involved an executive producer, the project is a standalone series, unrelated to the animated She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. The project does not currently have a writer attached.

Created by Larry DiTillio and J. Michael Straczynski, She-Ra made her first appearance in the animated film, He-Man: The Secret of the Sword in 1985. She was introduced as Force Captain Adora and was revealed later on to be Princess Adora, the long-lost twin sister of He-Man, Prince Adam. She was intended to appeal to young girls in the same way that He-Man appealed to young boys.

She-Ra was given an animated series, She-Ra: Princess of Power, which ran for two seasons between 1985 and 1986. Several decades later, Netflix produced a reboot series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. The show began in 2018 and was widely-praised for its writing and representation. It reimagined the character, with a backstory that was completely separate from the He-Man mythos. Adora was now an orphan who became a member of the Horde on Etheria.

The show followed a teenage Adora who discovers the Sword of Protection and is able to become She-Ra. Using her might, she joins the Rebellion on Etheria. The show ran for five seasons from 2018 to 2020. It was nominated for a number of awards and won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids and Family Programming.

Following the conclusion of the series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power saw a substantial demand for its continuation from its vocal fanbase. Throughout the summer of 2020, social media was flooded with posts demanding 'MORE SHE RA', 'MOVIE FOR SHE RA' or similar phrases. It should be worth noting that the series ended with a complete story and was not cancelled, like so many Netflix series.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power's cast featured AJ Michalka as Catra, Aimee Carrero as She-Ra, Karen Fukuhara as Glimmer and Lauren Ash as Scorpia. All five seasons are available for streaming on Netflix.
