The third season of Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power radically alters the political future of Eternia. While the world is saved from the destructive consequences of Hordak’s experiments with opening a portal through space and time, victory comes at the cost of one of the Resistance's most important figures.
Queen Angella is forced to stay behind, on the other side of reality, to save Adora and Eternia, leaving Glimmer as the orphan ruler of Bright Moon.
The Queen Of Bright Moon
The queen of the Bright Moon, Angella is the incredibly protective of her daughter Glimmer. Still reeling from the loss of her husband, Micah, she sought to do whatever it took to keep her daughter, and her kingdom, safe, even if that meant holding back in the fight against the forces of the Fright Zone. That translated to the use of her powers, which typically came in the form of protective, rather than offensive, spells.
Although she was initially disapproving of her daughter’s attempts to rally a young resistance, she came to see the good in Glimmer’s optimism. It even helped to motivate her to reengage with the world around her. She honored her daughter's intentions to fight for Eternia, even giving Glimmer the staff Micah had used in battle.
The Fate Of Angella
The final two episodes of Season 3 focus on the damage caused by Catra activating the portal device built by Hordak and Entrapta, despite the warnings of practically everyone. The encroaching wave of energy removes people from reality, seemingly eliminating them from the universe. Gradually, the entirety of Eternia collapses away, taking almost everyone with it.
Eventually, two of the only remaining people left in the world are Adora and Angella. Together, they find She-Ra’s sword at the center of the portal. The sword is the key to the portal that’s erasing reality, and the weapon needs to be pulled back out to reverse the effects. However, withdrawing the blade will trap whoever takes it out on the other side of reality. Although Adora initially tries to stay behind to close the gap, Angella uses her flight to reach the sword and pull it out herself. Eternia is restored, and Adora is able to take the sword to become She-Ra again. However, it appears Angella has been lost in the process.
The Future Of Bright Moon
The loss of Angella radically alters the future of Bright Moon, and of the Resistance. There’s a chance Angella will be rescued, of course, but at least for now, there’s no obvious way to do so. The Resistance no longer has one of its leaders, who often served as a voice of reason. Without her, it’s more likely the Resistance could make costly mistakes. And with the pending arrival of Hordak’s allies to Eternia, it’s never been more dangerous to stand against the Fright Zone. The alliance needs to be careful, otherwise it risks being overwhelmed.
Glimmer will also have to become the ruler of Bright Moon. Despite losing both of her parents, she’ll have to take up the mantle of leadership to ensure Bright Moon endures. In the process, she’ll become the first of the princess alliance to become an actual queen. That could teach Glimmer how to embrace restraint, a trait she's not exactly known for.
