Deadpool 3 has added a new screenwriter in the form of Zeb Wells.
According to Deadline, Wells has been tapped to co-write the script for Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3 alongside Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the latter two of whom wrote Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018) for 20th Century Fox. The duo of Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin wrote a previous draft for the Marvel Cinematic Universe-set Deadpool threequel before Wernick and Reese were ultimately brought back into the fold.
Wells is a Marvel Comics writer known for his work on such titles as Amazing Spider-Man and New Mutants, among several others. Wells is also no stranger to the MCU, having written Episode 7 of Marvel Studios' 2022 Disney+ original series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. He even made a cameo in She-Hulk's ninth and final episode alongside fellow Marvel Comics writer Cody Ziglar, who scripted Episode 8, and the MCU show's head writer, Jessica Gao. Wells also co-wrote the upcoming Marvel Studios film The Marvels, which is scheduled to hit theaters this November as a sequel to 2019's Captain Marvel.
Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool Closes in on a Hat Trick
The tentatively-titled Deadpool 3 is scheduled to release in theaters on Nov. 8, 2024 (one year after The Marvels bows). The R-rated film will mark Deadpool's MCU debut, with Ryan Reynolds attached to reprise the role from the Fox movies (presumably through multiversal shenanigans). Deadpool 3 is set to be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously directed Reynolds in Free Guy and The Adam Project. Levy also serves as a producer on the Deadpool threequel alongside Reynolds and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.
In addition to Reynolds, Deadpool 3 stars Hugh Jackman, who similarly reprises his role as Wolverine from Fox's X-Men movie universe. Moreover, Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams reprise their roles as Dopinder and Blind Al, respectively. Franchise newcomers Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen have been cast in undisclosed roles, though Corrin is said to be playing a villain. Finally, Owen Wilson is rumored to be reprising his role as Mobius M. Mobius from Marvel Studios' Disney+ original series Loki, as the Time Variance Authority (TVA) is similarly rumored to play a significant role in Deadpool 3.
Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3 is slated to open in theaters on Nov. 8, 2024.
