Kat Coiro, who is a director and executive producer on Disney+'s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, explained why Tatiana Maslany's Jessica Walters/She-Hulk is the size that she is.

Coiro spoke with USA Today about what factored into She-Hulk's character design, a process that took her and Marvel Studios several months to complete. "Yes, she has to be giant and green, but we also want her to still fit into the human world and be able to go to a restaurant on a date," Coiro explained. "She stands out, but she doesn't look like a monster who shouldn't be there."

Ever since the release of She-Hulk's first trailer in May, the titular hero's design has been criticized by many Marvel fans over the quality of its CGI, with some questioning why Marvel Studios chose not to use more practical effects in creating the character. "I think a lot of the reactions have to do with the fact that she is so different than anything we've seen," Coiro said in July regarding the reception to She-Hulk's CGI. "When you think of Thanos or Hulk, they have a grisliness and a harshness and a bulkiness to them that is just so different. And when you just see a little pop of her, it's almost shocking because we haven't seen it before."

She-Hulk Is Gonna Be Huge

Based on the Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee and John Buscema, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Maslany as lawyer-turned-superhero Jennifer Walters, who gains the powers of her cousin Bruce Banner/The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) after accidentally taking in his blood during an accident. Along with Ruffalo reprising his role as Bruce Banner, the legal comedy series is expected to feature "a lot of cameos" from new and returning Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Among these characters are Frog-Man, Wong (Benedict Wong) and the highly-anticipated return of Charlie Cox's Daredevil.

When asked about including Daredevil in She-Hulk, head writer Jessica Gao revealed that even she was surprised about Cox's return. "I don't think we ever, in a million years, thought that we would be allowed to use [Daredevil], because we didn't know what the status was of the character," Gao said in July. "And then, I can't remember how, we got wind that he was coming back and that it was Charlie Cox, and we were like, 'Wait, does that I mean we can use him? Are we allowed? And when they told us yeah, I mean, we couldn't believe it, we thought we were being pranked."

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres on Disney+ on Aug. 17.
