She-Hulk has played a significant role in the Empyre storyline. Her future is somewhat uncertain, but her past is just as tumultuous. Although Jennifer Walters is famously a member of the Avengers, she was also a member of the Fantastic Four for a time.

Following Secret Wars, She-Hulk became one of the first Marvel heroes to hold a spot on both teams' rosters. Here's what happened during her time with the Fantastic Four.

Shifting Alliances on Battleworld

Shortly into her tenure as an Avenger, Jennifer Walters became one of many heroes to be gathered by the Beyonder to take part in the Secret Wars -- an enigmatic clash of heroes and villains for the entertainment of one extra-dimensional entity. While the Beyonder's tournament led to several iconic firsts -- the first appearance of Julia Carpenter as Spider-Woman, the symbiote black suit that would later become Venom -- She-Hulk joining the Fantastic Four is an unexpected one.

In Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck's Secret Wars #12, Ben Grimm decides to stay behind on Battleworld for awhile. The Thing, forever forced to remain a rocky monster, learns he can return to a somewhat human form while on the other planet. Ergo, he decides to stay behind and the Fantastic Four replaces him with She-Hulk.

She-Hulk becomes a reserve member of the Avengers while fighting alongside the Fantastic Four for 35 issues. She leaves when Ben returns, though the two do bond over drinks and a friendly bar brawl to help the Thing vent his emotional conflicts in the process.

She-Hulk's Time with the Fantastic Four

While fighting alongside the Fantastic Four, She-Hulk is so bombarded by S.H.I.E.L.D. Radiation that for an extended period of time, it's impossible for her to transform into her human form. However, because She-Hulk likes being She-Hulk, this doesn't prove to be that much of a problem.

While with the team, she fights fought like Doctor Octopus, Doctor Doom and Mephisto. She-Hulk was there when the Fantastic Four first encounter Terminus, an alien that battled the Celestials themselves. Her incredible strength helps stop Terminus from obliterating the planet, though it's ultimately Reed Richards who puts the villain down. She-Hulk is also a member of the team when Spider-Man learns his black costume is a symbiote and, later, when the symbiote escapes custody in John Byre's  Fantastic Four #274 as it attempts to once again bond with Peter before finding a new host in Eddie Brock.

Arguably most important of all, however, is the when She-Hulk, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers find Jean Grey's psychic cocoon, where the mutant lurked following the creation of her Phoenix Force body. Shortly after that, She-Hulk rejoined the Avengers and drifted away from the Fantastic Four. However, she remained one of the team's most frequent susbtitute members for many of the ensuing years.
