She-Hulk: Attorney at Law director Kat Coiro addressed the negative fan reaction to the CGI showcased in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series.

Coiro went into detail about the process of digitally bringing to life the look of star Tatiana Maslany's She-Hulk during an interview with SFX Magazine. "It really is taking the design and asking, 'Are we getting those facial expressions and those nuances of reaction?'," Coiro said. "That is where all the time comes into play, just really honing in."

She-Hulk's first trailer, which was released online in May, received criticism from many fans due to concerns over the CGI effects for the titular character. "I think a lot of the reactions have to do with the fact that she is so different than anything we've seen," Coiro said in response to the criticism. "When you think of Thanos or Hulk, they have a grisliness and a harshness and a bulkiness to them that is just so different. And when you just see a little pop of her, it's almost shocking because we haven't seen it before."

Another possible reason for the uncanny appearance of She-Hulk's design on the series could be the platform on which many viewed the footage. The show's digital effects were defended by VFX artists at Corridor Crew during a recent video. Although they did concede that the CGI quality in the trailer would go "back and forth from utterly convincing to Shrek," they also praised the VFX for several of the shots. In addition, Corridor Crew explained that the negative reaction could be because YouTube's video compression can change a video's format, resulting a lowered quality for viewers.

Along with the criticisms directed at the upcoming Disney+ series' digital effects, the costume worn by Titania (Jameela Jamil) received backlash from some fans after a photo of the villain was released online. "I accept every ounce of shade here, but in defense of my excellent hair stylist, this is just my hair after a 14-hour stunt day in Atlanta heat," Jamil wrote on her Twitter recently in response to the criticism. "Just after being upside down. She did a *great* job on the show I promise. I love her. Boobs look OK tho?"

Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, She-Hulk will star Maslany as struggling attorney Jennifer Walters, who gains the powers of her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) after receiving a gamma-radiated blood transfusion from the big green Avenger. Tim Roth will also reprise his role his MCU role as Abomination from 2008's The Incredible Hulk, having brought the character back for an uncredited cameo in last year's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres on Disney+ on August 17.
