Daredevil and She-Hulk are two of Marvel's biggest superhero-lawyers. Given how they're allies, it would be unthinkable for these two heroes to face each other in court. Even more astounding is how Captain America pitted Matt Murdock and Jennifer Walters against each other.

This harrowing courtroom drama took place in She-Hulk #8-10, by Charles Soule and Javier Pulido. In this tale, Captain America, drained of the super soldier serum and aged considerably, approached She-Hulk to represent him as an attorney. Steve was caught in a civil lawsuit, which began with one criminal, Harry Fogler, speaking out against Rogers on his deathbed.

Harry's brother, Sam, came to Steve way back in 1940, asking for help when Harry ran away. Steve and Sam tracked Harry to an old warehouse, filled with criminals. When Steve and Sam were caught, the criminals threatened to kill Sam if Steve didn't stop antagonizing them. Yet Steve was relentless, leading to Sam's murder. Based on this testimony, Steve was being sued for wrongful death.

Matt Murdock in court

Jennifer tried to get Steve off on a technicality, as he had previously died, and he couldn't be held responsible post-mortem. Steve, however, wouldn't hear of this, insisting that he win the case fair and square. Since the case was in Los Angeles, Jennifer needed to use a California lawyer's practice as the firm of record. Jennifer called Matt Murdock, who was in San Francisco at the time. Surprisingly, Matt declined, with no explanation.

Still, Jennifer was able to represent Steve by using the firm of one of Jaimie Madrox's duplicates, who had, strangely enough, became a lawyer. Jennifer arrived in court the next day, only to find Matt as the prosecuting attorney. Nothing was held back between the two lawyers, as Jennifer and Matt got the jury to question whether Steve should be judged for who he'd become or for what he'd done back in 1940. Later, She-Hulk tried to pull up some dirt on Matt so he would be taken off the prosecution, but, once again, Steve wouldn't allow it.

When Daredevil approached She-Hulk that night, he revealed that Steve had asked him to be the prosecuting attorney. It seemed that Cap wanted no doubt around the fairness of his trial. As the trial went on, Steve sent Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat, to dig up a classified file for Jennifer. This file revealed that the warehouse was filled with Nazi spies, and that the Nazis were threatening to shoot Steve, yet he didn't bow to them. Steve was entirely unaware that they would shoot Sam, and the FBI classified the entire case.

This act of bravery may have even inspired Steve's enlistment in "Project: Rebirth," which made him Captain America. Although Jennifer couldn't use this evidence in court, it gave her the confidence she needed to argue Rogers' case. Following the jury's verdict, Cap explained everything to Matt and Jennifer. Steve hired Matt because he wanted a fair trial, but he also hired Jennifer because he wanted to win.

Furthermore, Steve knew that this was more than just a simple case: one of his old villains was targeting him. Indeed, Doctor Faustus, a villain with a specialty in psychology, coerced Harry into speaking on his deathbed. Faustus' goal was to tarnish Steve's legacy, since he was old and expected to die within a few years. Fortunately, Faustus failed, and Steve accompanied She-Hulk and Daredevil to storm the villain's headquarters. The heroes easily defeated Faustus and his goons.

Although they faced off in court, Daredevil and She-Hulk still proved themselves as close allies in crime-fighting.
