A new featurette from She-Hulk: Attorney at Law reveals the origins of Jennifer Walters's powers -- and it's a bit different than the comics.

In an exclusive featurette shared by ET Online, it was revealed that Tatiana Maslany's Jen Walters becomes She-Hulk after "accidentally [taking in] the Hulk's blood" following a car crash with both her and her cousin Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo). In the comics, however, Jen Walters receives an emergency blood transfusion from Bruce following an injury which gives her a milder version of the Hulk's powers.

Created by Stan Lee and John Buscema, Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk debuted in Marvel Comics' The Savage She-Hulk #1 in 1980. In later versions of the character, after gaining the powers of the Hulk after the blood transfusion, Jennifer stayed in her Hulk form without a transformation, able to continue her everyday life as a lawyer while simultaneously protecting the world as a superhero. Similar to the comics, Jen will break the fourth wall in the Disney+ series, directly addressing the audience with self-referential quips.

She-Hulk Isn't Your Typical Superhero

"This show is very different. It's got irreverent humor, and She-Hulk herself is trying not to be a superhero," Maslany said of her character during San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Maslany previously addressed how Jen Walters will fit in with the rest of the heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, describing She-Hulk: Attorney at Law as the "antithesis of most superhero narratives." She said, "There's this great element of denial in her that's relatable. For me, it was about rejecting what’s happened for as long as I could, as that’s what causes the fun tension between Jennifer and She-Hulk."

Marvel also released a new trailer for She-Hulk during the SDCC panel as well, which featured Walters undergoing Hulk training with Bruce, following the hero as she figures out her work-life balance and routinely breaks the fourth wall. The trailer also offered a first look at Charlie Cox's return to the role of Daredevil, as well as his new red and yellow suit.

She-Hulk follows Jen as she "navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk," and will consist of nine, half-hour episodes. She-Hulk was announced as a Marvel Studios/Disney+ series in 2019 and was later confirmed as a half-hour legal comedy. Along with Ruffalo, Tim Roth will reprise his role as Emil Blonsky/Abomination from 2008's The Incredible Hulk. The cast will also include Benedict Wong as Wong, as well as Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

Written by Jessica Gao and directed by Kay Coiro and Anu Valia, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres on Disney+ on Aug. 18.
