The trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is here lets fans see Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk in two different aspects of her life. On one hand, she becomes the face of a new superhuman law division at her legal firm. On the other, she transforms into the titular superhero. While the trailer spotlights some of Maslany's already praised performance and one of her scenes with Mark Ruffalo, there's a good point amidst all the action.

Hidden in all the trailer's chaos is a moment in which Jennifer is out on the town with her friend Nikki (played by Ginger Gonzaga). Nikki tells Jennifer that she's a superhero, but Jennifer resists the moniker. "I'm not a superhero," she laughs. "That is for billionaires and narcissists. And adult orphans, for some reason."

The backstories depicted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe generally stay true to their comic counterparts, with some tweaks and changes to fit within the MCU films. One constant between several characters is that they are indeed orphans. Among the original Avengers, the only one with confirmed living parents was Thor, and even that's no longer true. Within the MCU, there are potential exceptions in Hope van Dyne and Shuri, but they’re not even officially on the Avengers roster yet.

Billionaires and narcissists are much less common. There are a number of rich Avengers, with some being heirs to royal thrones and some being gods, and of course Iron Man. However, other Avengers have some sort of other job (as evidenced by Marvel changing the title of this show) or have no need for money. The majority of Avengers are a bunch of middle-class orphans doing their best with what they’ve been given, which proves that Jennifer has a point about at least one group.

Jennifer's comment is also indicative of the fact that her MCU version will likewise stick close to her comic origins. She-Hulk tends to break the fourth wall in the comics, mentioning information that she wouldn’t necessarily have but putting a humorous spin on her current situation. That quality is one aspect of why the character is a fan-favorite, and her making this sort of pointed remark in the series is a nice assurance that it's going to carry over into the TV series.

The She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer gave an amazing first look at the character and the challenges she'll face in the show, including a glimpse at her supervillain nemesis Titania, played by actress and Impractical Jokers standout Jameela Jamil. While Jennifer may not consider herself a superhero, she's definitely going to become one. Let’s just hope she can keep her powers, parents and paycheck through the whole ordeal.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres Aug. 17, 2022 on Disney+.
