Critics are loving She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe series to hit Disney+.

The first MCU series to be billed as a sitcom, Jen Walter's live-action debut is earning rave reviews as Tatiana Maslany's performance as Shulkie is raking in the praise. CBR's Lissete Lanuza Sáenz notes that the Orphan Black alum "shines" in Attorney at Law "even when she's sharing a screen with arguably more recognizable stars like Mark Ruffalo." The review notes that while the show is packed with familiar faces, including Bruce Banner, Emil Blonsky aka Abomination and Wong, She-Hulk works so well because these secondary characters allow Jen to take the spotlight, enhancing her screentime.

Writing for DiscussingFilm, Yasmine Kandil expressed similar sentiments regarding Maslany's performance. "As Jennifer Walters, Maslany knows how to command every scene, making for a multi-faceted self-made hero who is humorous, relatable, and charming," writes Kandil. Rolling Stone's Alan Sepinwall is generally positive on She-Hulk, despite noting that the series' humor takes a while to finally find its place amongst the generally already funny MCU. Variety's Caroline Framke was more lukewarm on She-Hulk, writing that the show is "charming enough" but doesn't manage to service the story's various angles. "Between its obligations to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, a far more limited budget than its film peers, and attempts to infuse Jen’s story with dated #girlboss energy, She-Hulk also represents an unsteady balancing act that needs more time than it likely has to settle into its own groove," Framke writes.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law chronicles the origins of Jennifer Walters, a high-profile lawyer that finds herself thrown into the limelight after she turns into the titular superhero. "What I find really compelling about the story is when she’s She-Hulk she’s treated very differently than when she’s Jen," Maslany explained. "There’s a lot of having to affirm her intelligence when she’s Jen and assert her role and trying to get respect, whereas when she’s She-Hulk there’s this inherent sort of awe inspired by her that’s at odds with how she wants to be perceived."

One of Jen Walters' biggest challenges comes in the form of Titania (Jameela Jamil), who has already been described as one of the MCU's most irritating villains. "Titania stands out because I think she's the most annoying of them, actually," Jamil said. "I think she almost doesn't need to use her strength; she could just annoy you to death. And I think that is a superpower that we haven't really utilized enough."

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law premieres on Disney+ on Aug. 18.
