She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star Tatiana Maslany described a "more serious" Season 1 finale fans didn't get to see.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Maslany opened up about all the various directions the first season finale of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law could have gone in. "Jessica [Gao, head writer] and I talked about the ending a lot, because tonally it could have gone in all kinds of different ways," Maslany said. "Jess said that there were like 20 versions of it. I never saw 18 of those versions, but I did see two: the one that we went with and then one that we shot prior."

Maslany described the scrapped ending as "Very different, a little more serious and less like Jen's version of it." She explained, "It was [more of] She-Hulk, so it was way too expensive, first off. And it had a different strategy to it. The thing that I love about this one is that we get back to Jen feeling like K.E.V.I.N.'s her collaborator and like an equal, and that her ideas deserve respect. Even sitting down on the ground and asking about the X-Men is like, 'We're buddies now,' you know what I mean? Something about that feels very Jen, and feels very funny."

She-Hulk's Genre-Smashing Finale

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's fourth wall-obliterating first season finale, which sees the titular hero directly interact with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's in-universe A.I. architect, has also been discussed by Gao, who noted that it was Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige who encouraged her to break the MCU mold of having a big, climactic fight scene cap off the series. "He was like, 'Why? No one's telling you to do that, you don't have to do that, you can do something completely different, we should be doing something completely different because this show is so different from anything that Marvel has done," Gao said. "It was getting that permission from him that really made me think, 'Oh.' It just changed everything."

Director Kat Coiro previously remarked on the series' non-traditional brand of superhero storytelling and the opportunities that afforded She-Hulk. "So much of what I think is fresh about [She-Hulk] is it really is about a woman living a very regular life even though she happens to be imbued with these superpowers and so, while we play into some of the tropes of the genre – like villains! – we have the luxury of a series that doesn't have a ticking plot clock," Coiro stated.
