After longstanding reports about the DC Extended Universe's Superman having a cameo in the upcoming Shazam! movie looked like they weren't coming to fruition, a new rumor suggests he will indeed appear.

However, Henry Cavill, who's been the DCEU's resident Superman for several years, might not be donning the Man of Steel's cape for the upcoming film.

According to We Got This Covered, the Man of Steel makes a cameo at the end of the film when Jack Dylan Grazer's Freddy Freeman convinces Asher Angel's Billy Batson to transform into Shazam and appear at their high school. However, as a bonus, the magic-powered superhero brings Kal-El of Krypton along with him to impress Freddy's friends even more, but the twist is that we won't see his face, just a body double in the blue, red and yellow.

It's sure to disappoint fans who have been clamoring for Cavill to make an appearance, but seeing as he's yet to sort his future out with Warner Bros., it comes as no surprise director David F. Sandberg would want to avoid using his likeness.

It's worth noting that We Got This Covered's report also includes a references to the recently-discredited rumor that Cavill had specific demands for returning for another Superman movie, so this story should be taken with a major grain of salt for the moment.

For months now, Cavill's future has been up in the air, with reports indicating he would have been following Ben Affleck out the DCEU. This led to the planned cameo being scrapped until Warner Bros. decided how to move forward with the Justice Leaguer. Well, until that's cleared up, we'll just have to make do with vague references and clever editing to maintain the illusion that Superman is indeed connecting with his fellow heroes.

Arriving on April 5, director David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Djimon Hounsou as the ancient wizard Shazam, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vásquez and Marta Milans as Rosa Vásquez.
