The cast of the upcoming DC film Shazam! has introduced audiences to DC's next cineamatic superstar in a new featurette. Zachary Levi, who portrays the film's titular hero, and his castmates sat down in the clop to talk about Billy Batson and how he becomes the magically endowed title hero.

The teaser promo is spliced with clips from the movie and interviews explaining the characters' background, as you can see below.

Like his comic book counterpart, Billy is a foster child who sticks up for the other kids, especially those who can't defend themselves. Since he's "pure of heart," as Levi puts it, he's chosen to be the world's next champion by a wizard who's somewhat confusingly also named Shazam (Djimon Hounsou.)

"Shazam is one of very few superhero characters who is genuinely stoked to be a superhero. More often than not, you've got a character who is begrudgingly pulled into this" says Zachary Levi. "But Billy Batson is stoked!"

Asher Angel, who plays the young Batson, talked about how Billy turns to his friend Freddy Freeman, a self-described superhero fanatic, to help him learn and get a handle on his powers.

"When he finds out that Billy is a superhero, he's like 'I know exactly what to do," adedd Jack Dylan Grazer, who portrays Freddy.

While most of this information is largely review for longtime comic fans, director David F. Sandberg and the film's cast spoke about how the film addressed the core conceit behind Shazam! that made the hero an iconic character who's endured since he was created by C.C. Peck and Bill Parker in 1939.

"It's wish fulfillment," Levi said, to which Angel added, "Who doesn't want to be a superhero?"

Arriving on April 5, director David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Djimon Hounsou as the ancient wizard Shazam, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vásquez and Marta Milans as Rosa Vásquez.
