Ross Butler, who stars in Warner Bros.' Shazam!, has taken it upon himself to be a real-life superhero and try to provide a better life to animals currently living in shelters.

Last week, to celebrate National Pet Day, Butler launched "Unconditional," a campaign that sells dog-themed t-shirts to benefit Best Friends Animal Society, a national animal welfare organization that runs the largest no-kill animal shelter in the United States and actively campaigns to end euthanization across the country.

To promote his campaign, Butler posted a new photo to Twitter, featuring him in the silver Shazam costume he wore in the recently-released superhero film as the adult alter-ego Eugene Choi. Additionally, the picture sees Butler holding a small dog, which he explained was adopted by co-star Michelle Borth.

"If you know me, you know I love dogs," Butler wrote. "And if I actually had super powers, I'd use them to save all the dogs I could. But I don't. What I do have is a platform to spread awareness about things I care about like supporting No Kill animal shelters... Please be a superhero like [Michelle Borth] and adopt dogs like Mr. Bean here or but a shirt! Thanks!"

In addition to Shazam!, Butler is known for playing the role of Reggie Mantle in the first season of The CW's Riverdale and Zach Dempsey in Netflix's 13 Reasons Why. He has also been cast in Netflix's upcoming sequel to To All the Boys I've Loved Before. The actor revealed he was inspired to start "Unconditional" by the emotional support dogs that came to visit him in the hospital after he had his appendix removed.
