Warner Bros.' upcoming DC film Shazam! may involve a villainous group from the comics.
According to a report from SuperBroMovies citing anonymous sources, Shazam! will feature appearances by the Seven Deadly Sins (also known as the Seven Deadly Enemies of Man). They are a team of seven demons who are meant to represent the physical embodiments of the seven deadly sins of Judeo-Christian religions: Pride, Envy, Greed, Wrath, Sloth, Gluttony and Lust.
This is not the first time signs have pointed to the Seven Deadly Sins making an appearance in Shazam!. In September 2017, Omega Underground got access to reported audition tapes suggesting the demons would pop up in the 2019 film.
The recordings, which can no longer be viewed, involve actors auditioning for the Billy Batson role while meeting the wizard Shazam for the very first time. The wizard then reveals the rest of the council were destroyed by the Seven Deadly Sins.
However, films can often undergo changes in the time between auditions being held and the final cut debuting. Moreover, certain scenes are sometimes written exclusively for auditioning purposes. Nevertheless, SuperMovieBros' sources assert the versions of the demons making the final cut will resemble those seen in DC's New 52 Shazam! series.
Alongside Captain Marvel/Shazam and Dr. Sivana (the 2019's films main antagonist), the Seven Deadly Sins made their first appearance all the way back in 1940's Whiz Comics #2.
Arriving on April 5, 2019, director David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Djimon Hounsou as the ancient wizard Shazam, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vásquez and Marta Milans as Rosa Vásquez.
