In many ways, the biggest criticism of the DC Extended Universe of films is the lack of fun, brightness and humor within its output. Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice were both utterly grim and maudlin and while Suicide Squad tried to balance that out, the uneven nature of the film failed to grab audiences in the way some of the lesser known properties of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film have.RELATED: Shazam Director’s Snarky Response to Rumor the DCEU Is EndingHowever, the DCEU has a potential ace up its sleeve with the upcoming Shazam! feature film, and its recently-cast star Zachary Levi apparently agrees, having said as much in a panel at last weekend's Atlanta's Heroes & Villains Fan Fest.

Asked if Shazam could be the Guardians of the Galaxy of the DC Extended Universe, Levi noted the similarities between the two properties as dark horses of the publisher's stables that the general public might not recognize, but that have the potential to be huge hits. Calling the concept of Shazam "Big with superpowers", Zachary Levi seems to have a great grasp on what makes Shazam such a great character and hopefully that'll translate to the finished movie.

The next DC film to go into production, Shazam!, directed by Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation’s David F. Sandberg, hits theaters in April, 2019.
