The DC Extended Universe of movies might be even bigger than anyone ever realized. Director Andy F. Sandberg, who directed both the upcoming DCEU film Shazam! and the 2016 horror film Lights Out has cryptically stated that both films may take place in the same universe.
On Twitter, the director was asked by a fan if we could ever look forward to a Shazam/Annabelle crossover, given that Sandberg also helmed the critically-acclaimed horror film Annabelle: Creation. But his answer was perhaps more intriguing than anticipated. "On an Easter egg level, yes," Sandberg answered, before adding "Also a character from Lights Out is in Shazam! so you could argue they take place in the same universe."

Just who this mysterious character might be is anyone's guess, but the possibilities are certainly intriguing. The cast of Lights Out was relatively small, which means that we are looking at a very short list. But what is even more curious is the fact that Lights Out actually featured the appearance of quite a few DC action figures -- meaning that perhaps the Justice League does exist in the world of the horror movie. Was this planned all along?
Debuting in theaters on April 5, 2019, Shazam! is directed by David F. Sandberg and stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Ron Cephas Jones as an ancient wizard named Shazam, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vázquez and Marta Milans as Rosa Vázquez.
