Kingdom Come takes place in a future where the heroes of the DC Universe find themselves in conflict with a new generation of vigilantes, with preacher Norman McCay visited by premonitions of a superhuman apocalypse. Shazam appears in the series as a brainwashed cohort of Lex Luthor and engages Superman in battle in the final issue before ultimately sacrificing himself to stop a nuclear warhead.

Elements of Kingdom Come have found their way into other DC film and television adaptations. During The CW's "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover, Brandon Routh reprised his role as Superman, with a costume that replicated Superman's Kingdom Come uniform. Kevin Conroy also portrayed a version of Batman that had a metallic exo-suit similar to the one a broken and weary Bruce Wayne wore in Kingdom Come. Finally, the Golden Eagle armor that Diana Prince wore in Wonder Woman 1984 is lifted wholesale from Kingdom Come.

Levi will reprise his role as Shazam in  Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which arrives in theaters June 2, 2023.
