Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Jack Dylan Grazer revealed which Batman he would most like to work with in the DC Universe.

During an exclusive interview with CBR, Grazer was asked about which other heroes and aspects of the DCU he would like the Shazam Family to interact with. The actor answered, "There are a few. There's a good handful. It's tough to answer these questions. I’ll be honest -- I got a team breathing down my neck about the things that I can and cannot say. However, I would love to work with Batman." Grazer continued, "In a perfect world, George Clooney Batman. [Laughing] I mean, I'd love to see expansion. I'd love to see what the Flash is doing right now, crossing over between universes and making it so meta-conceptual, and it'd be great to see Shazam dip its toe in that."

George Clooney starred as the titular Dark Knight in 1997's Batman & Robin film directed by Joel Schumacher. The film has drawn criticism over the years for its cheesy writing, the decision to show nipples on the Bat Family's costumes and more, making it the last Batman movie released until the character was rebooted in live-action with director Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy. Although one of Clooney's predecessors to wear the cowl, Michael Keaton, is reprising his Caped Crusader from Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) in DC Studios' upcoming The Flash movie, Batman & Robin remains Clooney's only outing as the hero. The actor joked back in Sep. 2022 that he is the best Batman though, saying, ""I mean you'd look at me, you'd just think, 'Oh he's just the best Batman.'"

Shazam's Uncertain Future in the DC Universe, Explained

Similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's multi-year phases and sagas, DC Studio co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have formed an eight to 10-year plan charting the cinematic DCU's future across film, television, gaming and other projects. Both Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash were developed prior to this new plan unveiled in Jan. 2023, but the latter film will be used to reset the DCU for future projects. Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg recently assured fans that the Shazam! sequel will not interfere with Gunn’s plans for a reimagined DC Universe. He elaborated that star Zachary Levi may return as the titular Shazam! in the future, but this depends on the sequel's success at the box office.

Sandberg’s assessment of the film’s performance is consistent with Levi’s previous remarks, in which he stated that Fury of the Gods' commercial success will determine Shazam's DCU future. Nonetheless, Levi appears hopeful that his time at DC will continue, saying, "I'm sure I'm gonna sit down with James and Peter soon enough, and we'll talk about what we think the trajectory of all this will be."

Shazam! 2 Is Like Marvel's Avengers, Says Director

Despite the film being a part of the DCU, Sandberg has likened Fury of the Gods to the MCU and its superheroes. "[Fury of the Gods is] like a mini-Avengers movie," the director said. "That's how I saw it because there are so many characters. You have all these heroes, you have the villains, you have the monsters…It’s a lot of movie packed into its runtime." However, unlike the Avengers, Sandberg spoke on the Shazam family not yet mastering the art of being heroes. "They've all been superheroes for a while now, trying to stop crime and save people. But they're not very good at it. The city has dubbed them the Philly Fiascos."

Shazam! Fury of the Gods strikes theaters on March 17, 2023.
