Shazam! continues to electrify the box office in its second weekend as Hellboy has failed to set the box office ablaze.

Following a slew of harsh reviews from critics, Hellboy seemed unlikely to do much business at the box office this weekend. The film earned $4.9 million on Friday, which includes Thursday previews, and is on track to earn a meager $12 million-$13 million over the course of the weekend. That puts the film in third place, behind holdover, Shazam!, and new release, Little.

Those numbers are much lower than the originally projected $16 million, which also had experts predicting the film would end its domestic run with $34 million. It's entirely possible the film's totals might further sink, especially given its C Cinemascore. It remains to be seen how Hellboy will perform overseas, but the $50 million production looks to be off to a shaky start stateside, making a sequel much less likely.

As Hellboy is failing to find an audience, Shazam! will take the top spot again with an estimated $22 million-$23 million. This would bring the film's domestic haul over $90 million, and it should easily cross $100 million domestically early next week.
