Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi has shared that he would love to see Green Lantern show up in a third Shazam! movie.

Following Superman and Wonder Woman's cameos in the first two Shazam! movies, Levi was asked during an interview with Entertainment Weekly to name the DC superhero he'd want his titular character to cross paths with in a third film. "That's a really good question," Levi mused. "Maybe Green Lantern? I'd like to see Green Lantern help us fight the hordes of undead. I think that would be really cool."

Unfortunately for Levi, it is unlikely that a third Shazam! film will see the light of day given that Fury of the Gods bombed at the box office. The 2023 sequel, which saw the Shazam Family go up against the Daughters of Atlas, struggled in both domestic and international markets, ending its theatrical run with only $133 million globally. That number is lower than the worldwide grosses of 2020's Wonder Woman 1984 ($169.6M) and 2021's The Suicide Squad ($168.7M), which were both released in theaters during the height of the pandemic. Warner Bros. also premiered both films on HBO Max the same day they hit theaters, which contributed to their lower box office grosses. Shazam! Fury of the Gods had none of those hindrances, making the film's dismal returns all the more shocking.

Green Lantern Is Part of James Gunn's DC Universe

While Shazam's DC Universe future remains up in the air, DC Studios boss James Gunn confirmed that Green Lanterns will play a major role in the first chapter of the rebooted shared universe. In January 2023, Gunn announced Lanterns, a live-action series that will feature both the Hal Jordan and John Stewart Green Lanterns. Gunn described the upcoming series -- which will stream on Max -- as "more of a True Detective-type mystery with our two Lanterns. A terrestrial-based mystery that leads into the overall story that we’re telling throughout the different movies and television shows. We find this ancient horror on Earth, and these guys are basically supercops on 'Precinct Earth.'"

Lanterns replaces the untitled Green Lantern series that was previously being developed by Greg Berlanti and his Warner Bros. TV-based Berlanti Productions for the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max. Initially set to star the Alan Scott and Guy Gardner Green Lanterns, the show was revamped in October 2022 to focus entirely on fan-favorite John Stewart. The project was then scrapped following Gunn and Peter Safran's appointment as co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios due to their desire to have the majority of DC projects set within one shared universe.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is available to stream on Max.
