New details regarding the role of the Shazam Family (or "Shazamily") in Shazam! Fury of the Gods came to light in January 2023, following the release of official character descriptions on the DC website. Notably, Shazam and his siblings have earned a bad reputation for using their superpowers recklessly, something that director David F. Sandberg hinted at in a previous interview. "They've all been superheroes for a while now, trying to stop crime and save people," Sandberg said. "But they're not very good at it. The city [of Philadelphia] has dubbed them the Philly Fiascos."

Will Wonder Woman Appear in Shazam 2?

Fortunately, at least one responsible superhero will apparently be on hand in Shazam! Fury of the Gods: Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. News first broke of Gadot's involvement in the sequel in April 2022, after Wonder Woman featured prominently in footage screened at CinemaCon 2022. That star is still not officially attached to the production, however, a trailer released more recently indicates that her scenes are still in the film. Targeted at Japanese-speaking audiences, this trailer included a brief shot of a character resembling Wonder Woman deflecting dragon fire with her bracelets.

A Wonder Woman cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods would track with the DC Universe blockbuster's overall fantasy bent. Aside from the Daughters of Atlas and their dragon, the Shazam! sequel also boasts several otherworldly locations, including an ominous-looking tower. Sandberg recently revealed the inspiration for this locale, tweeting that it takes its cues from The Legend of Zelda video game series. Specifically, the tower is modeled on Ganon's Castle, as seen in N64 classic The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods arrives in theaters on March 17, 2023.
