Shazam! Fury of the Gods will reportedly conduct reshoots in late April or early May.

Big Screen Leaks noted that additional filming on the upcoming DC Extended Universe sequel will take place "in a week or two" and isn't expected to last long. It's also said that the reshoots will be very minor, and are largely intended to allow director David F. Sandberg the chance to "touch up some stuff" ahead of the film's December release.

This tracks with Sandberg's perfectionist tendencies, as the filmmaker previously explained that he's still bothered by an easily missed visual effects goof in the first Shazam! movie. Sandberg attributed the error to the film's hectic production schedule and shared his intention to avoid similar VFX mistakes on Fury of the Gods, even though its premiere has moved forward from June 2023.

Sandberg insisted he didn't even mind that Shazam! Fury of the Gods' earlier release date put it in direct competition with James Cameron's Avatar 2, so long as it meant he had enough time to fine-tune the effects. The director has generally made light of going head-to-head with Avatar 2, despite it being the sequel to one of the highest-grossing films of all time. "Poor James Cameron must be shaking in his boots right now," Sandberg quipped after the news broke that Fury of the Gods and Avatar 2 would hit theaters on the same day.

Sandberg's less at ease when it comes to the potential negative reaction of hardcore fans to his movies, though. He once admitted he gave up on the idea of directing a Superman movie after witnessing the online backlash to Star Wars: The Last Jedi. "At one point I would have said [I want to make a] Superman [movie] but when there are so many different expectations and hardcore fans you're going to piss off so many people no matter what you do," Sandberg shared. "Seeing how people react to things like The Last Jedi makes me want to stay away from things like that. Shazam! was perfect in that there hadn't been that many adaptations before."

Shazam! Fury of the Gods arrives in theaters on Dec. 16.
