Shazam Confronts Strong's Doctor Sivana in New Photo

Zachary Levi’s Shazam looks surprised to confront Mark Strong’s Dr. Sivana in the newest image from the upcoming DC Extended Universe film.

Shown in the latest photo from Empire, Sivana has previously been described as a rejected successor of Shazam’s power who spent his life trying to unlock magic through scientific means. He found success as an inventor and industrialist, but -- according to the film’s official synopsis -- his conflict with Billy Batson will show him wielding deadly forces of evil as he seeks to make Shazam’s powers his own.

Shazam and the nefarious Dr. Sivana have been archenemies since the Fawcett Comics days, with the eccentric mad scientist creating a wide array of machines and schemes to use against “The Big Red Cheese” throughout the years. Their conflict would be continued through both Sivana and Batson’s super families and even involve other DC characters regardless of their super status.

Asher Angel’s Billy Batson and his alter ego Shazam, portrayed by Zachary Levi, must not only learn how to use their powers but also defeat their first supervillain. Although Shazam appears excited to face Sivana in the current trailers, he quickly learns that Sivana’s appearance -- modeled after the New 52 version of the character -- is one that is not to be underestimated. Given both Sivana’s knowledge of science and magic, Billy Batson is going to need every bit of luck, skill and wisdom the wizard Shazam can grant him.

Arriving April 5, 2019, director David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Djimon Hounsou as an ancient wizard named Shazam, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vásquez and Marta Milans as Rosa Vásquez.
