Following estimates that Warner Bros. could lose somewhere between $50 million and $100 million on Justice League, rumors have spread that studio intends to pull the plug on the DC Extended Universe. However, if that's the case, no one bothered to tell Shazam! director David F. Sandberg, who offered a hilarious response to the apparently unsubstantiated notion.

In a since-deleted Reddit comment, a user who cited unnamed sources at Warner Bros. claimed the studio planned to scrap the entire shared cinematic universe and place any DC Comics-based movies on the back-burner for at least five years. Sandberg, a frequent Reddit user himself, took the opportunity to put an end to the rumor with a dose of tasteful sarcasm.

"Nobody told me," the director replied. "Can I take the day off tomorrow then? I really want to sleep in."

Many fans have believed the future of the DCEU to be in flux for months, with reports of DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson's new approach to continuity merely fueling speculation. However, with a slate of planned films that includes the likes of Suicide Squad 2, The Batman, Deathstroke, Black Adam, Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, Batgirl, Green Lantern Corps and Justice League Dark, DC's ambitions aren't likely to change over Justice League's middling reception.

Directed by David F. Sandberg from a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi as Shazam (formerly Captain Marvel), Asher Angel as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong as the villain Doctor Sivana. Grace Fulton (Annabelle: Creation) has also been cast in an unknown role. The movie is scheduled to begin filming in February ahead of a April 5, 2019 release.
