A new original trio of villains threatened the DCEU in 2023’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods. They were the Daughters of Atlas, the Titan of Myth. Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler starred as Hespera, Kalypso, and Anthea, respectively. They were demigods with incredible abilities and a deep connection to the magical energies of the DCEU.

The Daughters of Atlas proved they were incredibly dangerous foes as they easily took on the powerful members of the cinematic Shazam Family. They each wielded unique mystical abilities that increased over the course of the film. Of course, since they are original DCEU characters, some fans might be left wondering just what are the powers of the Daughters of Atlas.

8 Enhanced Titan Physiology

Hespera, Kalypso, and Anthea all had the same enhanced Titan physiology as their father. This grants them a number of powerful abilities while also placing them on another physical level above most DCEU characters, both heroes and villains.

Each of the Daughters of Atlas has superhuman strength, speed, endurance, and invulnerability. Their incredible strength and speed allowed them to physically dominate Shazam, who is one of the most powerful DC heroes. Another important Titan trait is their immortality, which allowed the sisters to survive over the centuries to threaten the modern day.

7 Magical Conduit

The Atlas sisters are also powerful magical conduits who are able to access what little mystical energy remained in the DCEU realm. Their magical energy continued to build as they collected more from the world around them and the members of the Shazam family.

Atlas’ enhanced Titan physiology gave his daughters incredible strength and a connection to magic. However, their mother was Nyx, the Goddess of Night. This further strengthened their powerful connection that increased their knowledge of spells. Shazam’s great power but limited knowledge of the magic at his disposal put him at a definite disadvantage.

6 The Power Of Elements

The Shazam Family’s research into the Daughters of Atlas and their abilities uncovered a few powerful skills. Hespera especially had mastered the Power of Elements, which gave her incredible control over the natural forces of Earth.

The oldest Daughter of Atlas could manipulate rock and conjure up fire without even casting a spell. She could also manipulate air in such a way that simulated telekinesis. She could harden the air around her enemies to freeze them in place or throw them across the room without even touching them. She also conjured a powerful dome of impenetrable hard air around Philadelphia.

5 Petrification

The Daughters of Atlas kicked off Shazam! Fury of the Gods with an impressive display of power that would intimidate some of DC's most powerful magic users. Hespera used the enhanced magic she gained from her father’s staff to disintegrate the various statues in the museum’s display into a cloud of dust.

She then hardened that cloud of dust around the innocent party-goers, petrifying them instantly. Everyone in the room died instantly with little more than a wave from Hespera’s hands. While it’s potentially a facet of her elemental control over the natural forces of Earth, it was no less devastating.

4 The Power Of Chaos

Kalypso had a unique ability that she demonstrated with equal brutality during their debut in Fury of the Gods. She whispered into the ear of a guest, and a frenzied confusion took control of their mind. It quickly spread among the crowd, causing panic.

The Shazam Family learned this was the Power of Chaos. Kalypso could infect anyone with her dark whispers and force them to do her bidding. She could either cause random and quickly-spreading chaos or give specific commands. She forced Freddy Freeman’s favorite teacher to walk off the school’s roof and nearly made the young hero reveal Shazam’s identity.

3 Reality-Manipulation

Rachel Zegler using her powers as Anthea in Shazam Fury of the Gods

Each of the Atlas sisters had their own powerful ability that they displayed during Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Hespera controlled the elements and Kalypso sowed chaos, but it was the youngest sister Anthea who might have had the most powerful ability.

Anthea could warp reality around her in dramatic ways. When she used her powers, the Archimedean spirals of a triskelion appeared on her palms in glowing energy. She could move buildings and matter around her offensively and defensively. She knocked Shazam out with a speeding high-rise and moved quickly away from danger by shifting the world around her.

2 The Power Of Access

The Shazam Family first saw mention of the Power of Access while researching the Daughters of Atlas in the mystical library at the Rock of Eternity. However, it wasn’t fully explained until Freddy Freeman met the terrifying wooden dragon named Ladon, who served Shazam's deadly new enemies.

Ladon guarded the Garden of the Hesperides and emitted an ethereal blue flame that inspired fear in its enemies. The Power of Access referred to the Daughters of Atlas’ ability to resist Ladon’s terrifying flames. It granted them access to the magical garden while keeping everyone else from getting close due to their terror of Ladon.

1 Power Transfer

While it wasn’t an inherent magical ability shared by the Daughters of Atlas, the mythological Staff of the Gods gave them additional abilities. While Shazam used it to share his power with his family, the Daughters of Atlas used it to take the power away. One of the stolen powers given to Shazam and his family was the Stamina of Atlas.

The Wizard stole the magic from the realm using the Staff of the Gods, and the Daughters then used it to steal back their father’s magic. The Staff of the Gods made it much easier to deal with the powerful Champions of Shazam. A single strike of lightning could turn the heroes back into their non-powered forms.
