Billy Batson has made tons of enemies within the DC Comics universe, and everyone seems to actually forget these top 10 characters who have actually defeated Shazam. At the young age of fifteen, Billy learned what adventure can really feel like when you have superpowers. Endowed with uncanny powers from the ancient gods, the plucky orphan was chosen by The Wizard Mamaragan because he has the strongest of heart. Constantly having to prove himself against other super-villains as the World's Mightiest Mortal, Shazam always seems to take a vicious beating when he has to become a strong champion of good.
Making his first introduction in Whiz Comics #2 back in the 1940s, Billy had to scream out the magic word, "Shazam!" in order to receive the powers of the elder gods, such as Zeus, Hercules, and Mercury. After the magic word was said, The normal teen suddenly turned into an extraordinary adult wearing a bright red costume and white cape. All of a sudden, Billy had the powerful capabilities of superhuman strength, flight, and speed. Though Shazam has always been compared to Superman, Billy has a child's keen sense of wonder.
10 10. Eclipso
The demonic entity known as Eclipso sought to possess super-humans with incredible powers in order to conquer the world. While gathering his unbeatable army, Eclipso spread his divine vengeance through small purple diamonds. During the "Darkness Within" crossover event, Eclipso was closer than ever to fulfilling his main goal when he became in possession of Superman.
In Action Comics Annual #4, the eclipsed Superman found himself in an epic confrontation against Shazam. By the time Eclipso was done beating him to a pulp, Shazam was unable to continue due to his bruises.
9 9. Lobo
Very few people can stand being around the intergalactic bounty hunter known as Lobo. In L.E.G.I.O.N. '91 #31, Shazam and the last remaining Czarnian found themselves at odds inside a space bar. You have to understand that underneath the adult exterior, this is a naive teen pretending to be a superhero.
Billy doesn't like bullies and that's what he thinks Lobo is when the bounty hunter shoves a drunk patron down into a toilet bowl. Billy thinks he has to pick a fight and stand up to a bully, but he doesn't realize how aggressive Lobo really is.
8 8. The Batman Who Laughs
In Batman/Superman #1, the superhero duo finds themselves inside a twisted version of the Batcave. Hailing from the Dark Multiverse, The Batman Who Laughs was once Bruce Wayne before he became exposed to the toxic chemicals by the dying Joker.
With the intention of turning Earth Prime's superheroes to the dark side, the Batman Who Laughs laced his Batarangs with the same toxins that turned him evil. The Batman Who Laughs came close enough to Billy Batson to stab him with the Batarang and turn him into Shazam Who Laughs.
7 7. John Constantine
The Justice League found themselves on a collision course against the Justice League Dark in the "Trinity War" crossover event. John Constantine, the occult detective of the dark arts, comes up with an elaborate bluff in order to gain all of Shazam's powers.
While the rest of the superheroes have gone crazy in Constantine #5, Shazam actually believes in the lies about an evil spell at play and turns himself back into Billy. With the use of a Voodoo doll, Constantine manages to gain control of Shazam's powers and even stole Billy's voice.
6 6. Kingdom Come
From writer Mark Waid and artist Alex Ross, Kingdom Come features the greatest fight between Shazam and Superman of all time. Brainwashed by the maniacal Lex Luthor, Shazam finds himself clashing with the Man of Steel. Unleashing the full force of his powers, Shazam blasts away at Superman with one magical lightning bolt after another.
But this older version of Superman doesn't want to waste precious time as he takes in the powerful blasts. With a bomb ticking away, Superman knows he has to defeat Shazam in order to save all meta-humans from death.
5 5. Flashpoint
Barry Allen went back in time to prevent his mother's death and changed the world he once knew in writer Geoff Johns and artist Andy Kubert's Flashpoint. Drastic changes were made to the timeline as Thomas Wayne became the gun-toting Batman and Superman is now a caged prisoner held by the government.
With a war brewing between Aquaman and Wonder Woman, Western Europe has already been lost and sunk underwater. In a massive battle, Billy Batson loses to a fight against Wonder Woman and gets stabbed to death by the Amazon warrior, Penthesileia.
4 4. Mary Marvel
Much like Billy, teenager Mary Blomfield has to speak the wizard's name before she can turn into the super-powered adult known as Mary Marvel. Turning over to the dark side, Mary became an evil version of herself in the Countdown to Final Crisis crossover event.
After losing her powers, Mary was consumed with getting them back, no matter what the cost. After finding out where Shazam's enemy had been hiding, Mary took away Black Adam's superpowers as if they were actually hers. After becoming a darker version, Mary started using excessive violence against her opponents, including Shazam.
3 3. Lex Luthor
Lex Luthor, Superman's arch-nemesis, has figured out how to defeat Shazam in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Strikes Again. After capturing and torturing Mary Marvel, Luthor discovers the adult version of Billy Batson has been dead for over eight years.
Withered away from old age, if Billy says the magic word one more time, he will case to exist. Luthor manages to outthink the elderly Shazam and forces him to recite his magic word. In the end, Shazam has to make the sacrifice and calls down the magic lightning to destroy himself.
2 2. Spectre
The Spectre used to be the gritty cop known as John Corrigan before becoming a supernatural entity of vengeance. The avenging undead spirit ends up battling against Shazam in writer Bill Willingham and artist Justinano's Day of Vengeance. Without his human host, the Spectre is manipulated by Eclipso into thinking that all magic is evil.
At first, Enchantress uses her magic powers to increase Shazam's capabilities during their match. After Enchantress turns insane and starts attacking her own teammates in Shadowpact, Shazam has no more leverage against Spectre and is easily defeated.
1 1. Harley Quinn
Heroes have been divided as Batman and Superman formed their own teams. In Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year 3 #17, Harley Quinn, the Joker's ex, continues to demonstrate her newfound allegiance to Batman. Shazam has shown his support by siding with Superman's dictatorial regime.
Even though Harley has a crush on Shazam, that still won't stop her from a fight. Harley manages to distract Shazam as he easily catches her flying mallet. Shazam doesn't realize what he has in his hand until it explodes right in front of his face.
