Comic-Con International: San Diego brought the first official teaser trailer for Warner Bros.’ upcoming film Shazam! With it came a plethora of new details about the film, including more info on the film’s hero, Billy Batson, and his alter ego, the hero named Shazam. But there was a critical detail left out of the trailer that only surfaced online later: Just what exactly is Billy’s overarching quest?

Sure, he’s going to learn how to become a superhero with the help of his foster brother, Freddy Freeman, and together they’ll likely take down Mark Strong’s Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, but there’s more to Billy’s journey. According to a Comicbook.com interview the film’s director, David F. Sandberg, Billy will actually be on the lookout for his mother, who he has long thought to be dead.

"He's trying to find his family... His mom is still out there," Sandberg said. "But once he gets these powers, he's just trying to figure out what to do with them and how it works. For that he needs his friend Freddie, who is like a superhero expert, who helps him to discover his powers and how to be a superhero."

Sandberg’s Shazam! stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Djimon Hounsou as an ancient wizard named Shazam, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vázquez and Marta Milans as Rosa Vázquez.
