After Shazam! star Zachary Levi's lighthearted tease of his official costume, fans have created a meme inserting the carefree superhero into intense moments throughout the DC Extended Universe, including 2016's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Not to be outdone, director David F. Sandberg got in on the fun himself.
"Since everybody else is doing this..." the Shazam director wrote, Tweeting a video of Shazam in a key moment from Batman v. Superman.

Since its debut with Man of Steel in 2013, the DCEU has been criticized for being off-putting in its efforts to be dark and gritty. Recently, the films in the extended universe have attempted to course-correct on the tone, including next year's Shazam!.
The deadly serious tone of the DCEU has been the recurring subject of criticism and ridicule, which even inspired a hilarious joke in this month's Deadpool 2. Following fan backlash for Batman v. Superman and 2016's Suicide Squad, the studio has attempted to lighten the tone of its upcoming project Shazam!. Last year's Justice League also saw a considerably more hopeful and optimistic tone than its predecessors, and Shazam! looks to continue the trend even further.
Debuting in theaters on April 5, 2019, Shazam! is directed by David F. Sandberg and stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, Mark Strong as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Ron Cephas Jones as an ancient wizard named Shazam, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vázquez, and Marta Milans as Rosa Vázquez.
