The latest installment of the DC Universe is indeed a bittersweet one. Shazam! Fury of the Gods will continue the story of Zachary Levi and Asher Angel's Billy Batson as his siblings try to grow into their own as superheroes in Fawcett City, Philadelphia. Director, David F. Sandberg, returns to helm the sequel four years after the original, although fans are still uncertain how it'll tie into the new DC slate helmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The shake-up and Warner Bros. canning properties for tax cuts saw the studio move past Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill's Superman, Ben Affleck's Batman and Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam. Thankfully, Fury of the Gods survived, but many assume it'll get written out after The Flash's conclusion. It's left loyalists more curious than ever about how this sequel will wrap up and if it'll follow what the first Shazam! did, teasing a big future with stingers attached after the movie ends.

Does Shazam! 2 Have a Mid-Credits or Post-Credits Scene?

Surprisingly, Fury of the Gods has two post-credits scenes, one coming mid-credits and the other a true post-credits scene, both of which expand the series. Both are in the vein of most Marvel Cinematic Universe add-ons, building on what could happen to Billy down the line rather than something really meant to advance the plot. Admittedly, past DC movies also adopted a similar approach, hoping to establish a more connected universe.

However, these new sequences may confuse fans as many assumed WB would want to put a definitive stamp on the Batson clan. But more clarification is provided for the magical future Gunn and Co. are shaping, especially with a DC hero making a massive cameo. Nonetheless, these scenes do offer hope Billy, at least, might have a place in the new vision.

What To Expect in Shazam 2

Regardless of what happens to Billy later on, his crew is presently in for a world of hurt, with Fury of the Gods pitting them against the Daughters of Atlas. Rachel Zegler's Anthea, Lucy Liu's Kalypso and Helen Mirren's Hespera won't just be coming to take back the magic from the Marvel Family; they'll be unleashing a deadly weapon that could destroy a world they think needs punishing.

This adventure promises to push Billy to his limits, testing his maturity and how far he'll go for his family. In addition, all the other siblings are going to have to step up under the watch of Grace Caroline Currey's Mary, knowing their powers are under threat and that Billy may get broken, evidenced by trailers showing him trying to give his power back to the Wizard. What's clear is from heroes like Freddy Freeman using their powers for good to the Daughters of Atlas decimating the landscape and Billy struggling against a scary dragon, the Marvel Family will be in for their fiercest battle yet.
