Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Grace Caroline Currey is unsure about her role in the new DC Universe.

In an exclusive interview with The Direct about the upcoming DCU sequel, the actor who plays Billy Batson's foster sister Mary Bromfield expressed excitement for James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Studios. Though Currey admits she's "not in the conversations" to continue the role beyond the Shazam! sequel, she is more than willing to work with Gunn should he ask for her return in future DC projects. "I think we're in incredible hands," Currey said.

She continued, "I got excited about the slate, because I know James Gunn just brings so much to comic book lore and he’s so well-versed. So yeah, I'm not in the conversations, of course. You know, I'm along for the ride. And when they say, 'Grace, it's time,' I'm there... I'm really, really curious. I'm really interested to see what comes up with this slate. And I think there's gonna be a whole new breadth too, to just the world... I'm really curious."

The Growing Shazam! Universe

Currey landed the role of Mary Bromfield in 2019's Shazam! after having worked with director David F. Sandberg on Annabelle: Creation. By the end of the original film, Mary along with Billy's other foster siblings transform into the adult Shazam Family to battle Dr. Sivana (Mark Strong) and the Seven Deadly Sins. The adult Mary was played by Michelle Borth in Shazam! while Fury of the Gods will see Currey play both forms of Mary.

Another star whose future is in question after Fury in the Gods is franchise lead Zachary Levi. Though the actor is close friends with Gunn and fellow DC Studios chairman Peter Safran, Levi is prepared for whatever decision the new bosses make regarding the character moving forward. "As of this point right now, I’m still that character […] I have no idea what’s going to ultimately happen to me. I think I’m in a pretty good position," Levi said. Additionally, he added that if they choose to recast, "them's the breaks, that's how it goes."

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will see the title character and his family battle the Daughters of Atlas. Levi and Currey reprise their roles alongside actors Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Ian Chen, Meagan Good, Faithe Herman and Djimon Hounsou. New additions to the cast include Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler as the Daughters of Atlas.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods releases in theaters on March 17.
