Shazam! Fury of the Gods will reportedly bring Djimon Hounsou's character back to life.

Murphy's Multiverse claims that Hounsou will return as the wizard Shazam in the new film. In the first movie, the ancient wizard grants teenager Billy Batson the powers of his champion, allowing him to turn into the adult hero also called Shazam. By the film's end, however, the character has been reduced to ash and his magic staff has been destroyed. Earlier today, Mark Strong said the villainous Sivana won't return for Shazam! 2.

Strong's Sivana was one of the children the wizard Shazam summoned to be his potential next champion. But, much like Black Adam before him, the wizard saw something evil in Sivana and rejected him rather than grant him power. Sivana spent his life searching for the wizard at the Rock of Eternity. He finally found him and stole the Eye of Sin, granting him dominion over the Seven Deadly Sins.

The wizard eventually found Billy and granted him his power, beseeching him to rebuild the Council of Wizards. He then turned to dust, leaving Billy to discover his powers over the course of the film and eventually choose his new foster siblings to join him. How or why the wizard will return, if indeed the report is correct, remains unclear.

In place of Sivana, the new film will feature numerous gods from Greek mythology. Helen Mirren will play Hespera, Lucy Liu will play Kalypso and Rachel Zegler will play an undisclosed character; all three will be daughters of Atlas and the villains of the film. Outside of the new cast, the sequel will feature Shazam's super-powered siblings and plenty of Marvel Family action.
