The upcoming sequel to the 2019 DC Extended Universe film Shazam! has added a brand-new face to its cast.

As first reported by The Wrap, Rachel Zegler has boarded director David F. Sandberg's Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which is currently slated for release in the summer of 2023. Zegler's role is being described as a "key" one, though specifics are currently being kept under wraps. She is the second Colombian American actor to join a DC superhero film, with Sasha Calle having recently been tapped to play Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in Andy Muschietti's The Flash.

Zegler is currently slated to make her big screen debut in director Stephen Spielberg's upcoming reboot of West Side Story, in which she will play female lead Maria opposite Ansel Elgort's Tony. Scheduled for release later this year on Dec. 10 (having been pushed back from Dec. 18, 2020), Spielberg's West Side Story was conceived as a remake of the 1961 film of the same name, though is expected to hew closer to the original 1957 Broadway musical.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! Fury of the Gods stars Zachary Levi as Shazam, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Asher Angel as Billy Batson and Marta Milans as Mama Rosa. The film arrives in theaters June 2, 2023.
