Considering their friendship over the years, it's no surprise that District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp has turned to Sharlto Copley once again in his new feature film Chappie. Details have been kept quiet about the movie, but it's been revealed Copley will play the title character.

"Sharlto Copley is CHAPPIE," the actor posted to his Facebook, and the casting was later confirmed by Entertainment Weekly. Chappie is said to be a "science-fiction comedy" in an "unsual setting."

This will be the first time Blomkamp tackles a comedy, as both of his previous films were action dramas. Copley has proved time and again that he can handle whatever Blomkamp throws at him, as he first played the lead in District 9 and now is the villainous Kruger in Elysium. He seems more than capable of playing a comedic lead in Chappie.

Blomkamp wrote and directed District 9 and Elysium, and will likely do the same with Chappie. Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, William Fichtner and Copley. It's due in theaters on Aug. 9.
